Your Travel Guide to: Greece

So, you want to go to the Greek Islands but need help figuring out where to start? We have curated the perfect travel guide for you to experience all that the Islands have to offer. Sit back and relax; before you know it, you’ll be living out your Mamma Mia! fantasies.

Corfu

Corfu is the second biggest Greek Island in the Ionian Sea and can be easily reached from Italy by ferry or airplane. The Island is filled with lush greenery, white sandy beaches, delicious food, and historical landmarks! You can visit the Old Town for some history on your trip. During the 1800s, a pedestrian street modeled after the Rue de Rivoli in Paris was built to start the Old Town section. The Liston is a short distance from the Spianada, the largest square in Greece. Across the street, you’ll find the Old Venetian Fortress, a castle built during the 18th century. After a long day of exploring, it’s time to sample the local food! Corfu is known for using old cooking methods and recipes to make you feel at home even miles away! The signature dish is pastitsada, meat braised in red wine, garlic, and onion, served on pasta.

Naxos

If you’re looking for a relaxing beach destination, look no further than Naxos! You can enjoy the sun on the Plaka beach on Naxo’s southwest coast. You’ll find certain sections with umbrellas, beach beds, and food and drink services, but some areas are untouched by modern-day humans! If you want a special drink, you can sample the Naxos-made citron liqueur! The Vallindras Distillery was established in 1896 to make the liqueur, produced through the collection of citron leaves when they are fully fragrant in September. Today the mansion has been converted into a museum where you can take a guided tour of the facilities, hear of the distillation process, and taste the liqueur for yourself! If you want to experience the Island thoroughly, you can take a boat trip to explore the historical landmarks that can only be reached by boat. You’ll see dolphins playing along, and you can get a closer look by snorkeling and cliff-jumping into the sea from the Rina Cave

Sifnos

Calling all foodies! Sifnos is your ultimate paradise. Sifnos became a global destination for foodies thanks to Greece’s first celebrity chef, Nikolaos Tselementes. Nikolas is considered the father of Greek cookbooks, starting with Cooking and Baking Guide, published in 1926. You can try the classic Greek dishes all over the Island, like Moussaka, Souvlaki, and two-day chickpea broth or lamb in red wine! Many of these Greek dishes are made in clay pots on the Island because of the clay-based soil. Locals believe they give the food a unique flavor you can’t replicate outside Sifnos. If you want to celebrate the father of Greek cookbooks for yourself, you can visit in September when the “Nikolaos Tselementes” Cycladic Gastronomy Festival kicks off! There are three days of amateur and professional chefs preparing and presenting their recipes.
